KIT ROOM: AIK 1891

A second Scandanavian post of the day, oh the excitement! Having already produced two commemorative shirts with kit manufacturer Nike , two added shirts have been designed to celebrate the club’s 128 year anniversary (it must be a thing in Sweden, I can’t get my head around it either). They come in a luxury presentation box that is worth the £100 alone and you’d be the envy of anyone sad enough to know what it is, let’s take a look:

1901 Shirt – The first attempt Nike made and the most simplistic, it was designed as a modern take on the shirt that the team wore when lifting their second league title in 1901. This blackout design is classy but it does look more like a t-shirt than a football shirt. I’d avoid this one in comparison to the others. Only 127 were made so the chances of ever seeing one aren’t likely.

1891 Black Edition Shirt – The sequel to the above 1901 shirt and another full blackout affair, the 1891 shirt is so cool that even your friends would humour you and pretend it’s a good purchase. According to the Nike bumf, the idea is to celebrate beginnings rather than endings. “Every match, every minute, is an opportunity to start something new, so you have to maintain focus at all times, forgetting what’s gone before. It’s the champion mentality.” What a load of tripe. I should note that 128 of this one was made so your chances of getting one were much greater.

1900 Shirt – Launched in response to the success and media attention that the 1901 shirt garnered, why they didn’t release this one first I don’t know as this was to celebrate their first league title. Lack of logic seems to be a theme here though, having said all of that, it’s absolutely lovely. Once again, limited to 127.

1891 White Edition Shirt – In fairness, this is another outstanding design. Just a shame they’re impossible to get hold of. I think I saved the best until last.

So there you go, £400 for 4 football shirts, what a bargain. Happy 128th Birthday AIK?!
